Welcome to my blog page, My own personal thoughts and views about the Metropolitan Police Service.

October 2011.  A Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) police officer was dismissed on 25 October 2011 at a Misconduct Hearing following a Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) investigation managed by the IPCC.

The Police Sergeant was found to have committed gross misconduct (discreditable conduct).

Commander Peter Spindler, in charge of the DPS said:  "It is only right that the misconduct panel took the allegations about his conduct so seriously. The public look to us to assist them in times
of need, and our staff need to be trusted not to take advantage of those in a vulnerable position. This officer's actions fell far below the standards expected of a Police Officer and has therefore been dismissed from the service."

The allegation was made in October 2010 by a female member of the public who alleged that she was indecently assaulted by a police sergeant.

December 2011:   A video posted on You Tube has caused controversy after an armed Metropolitan Police Officer is seen drawing a Taser Gun whilst dealing with the crowds following the murder of an 18-year-old man in Oxford Street outside Footlocker.  It is important to stress that the scene was volatile where hundreds of people were witnessing what was happening and what was unfolding.  A minority of those people appeared angry, agitated and frustrated.  Were police right to draw their weapon? In my opinion yes. However why were there not more police on scene to deal with this incident, preserve the crime scene and seek witnesses? Central London is flooded with police serials. Commander Steve Rodhouse said: "One of the first units to come across the incident were officers from the Met's Diplomatic Protection Group (DPG) who were driving past. On arrival they were confronted by certain elements of the crowd who were extremely agitated and officers had to protect the victim and those administering emergency first aid to him. "Officers can be seen in the footage pushing the crowd back and one officer is shown to remove his Taser from its holster, although at no time was it ever deployed. Clearly in those initial early stages, officers would have been unaware of what had occurred and where the suspect(s) might be and their priority would have been to prevent further injury or loss of life to those in the area." Disproportianate and aggressive bahaviour by police must also be kept in check.
