The Metropolitan Police Service is tasked with policing London, which has an area of approximately 659 sq miles. Throughout the working day, up to 14 million people are in London at any given time. The responsibility for this mammoth task is shared with the City of London Police who look after the square miles of the City. whilst the above-ground rail network and the London Underground Tube system is taken care of by British Transport Police. There are many occasions whereby joint operations take place, and all the services work together, for example when a large scale public order event takes place, they will also be assisted by outside police forces from around the country. It is comforting to know that we are in safe hands, as London is the most violent city in Europe. Be sure to come visit sometime!
