The long campaigns, debates, public meetings and endless photocall's saw the Mayoral candidates get quizzed, make statements, promises and pledges when they published their manifestos on their way to believing for some, they would get the keys to City Hall after being elected in the first Mayoral election in 2000. The build-up was exciting, dramatic and filled with every journalist's and photographer's dreams that an election can bring. Ken Livingstone was elected as the first Labour Mayor of London in 2000, which saw him serve two terms after winning again in 2004. In 2008, two other candidates were fielded against Livingstone. Boris Johnson (Conservative) and Brian Paddick (Lib Dem). Boris posed a serious threat to Ken Livingstone and after a long, hard, and tenacious campaign, Boris Johnson won the confidence of Londoners , To this day, Ken still cannot believe he lost the election in May 2008. Images also being added shortly of other worthy contenders who made challenges in the early days against Ken Livingstone but were unsuccessful, Frank Dobson (Lab), Susan Kramer (Lib Dem), Steve Norris (Con) and lastly not forgetting Brian Paddick (Lib Dem) amongst others.
